142: Bergen Verdu, Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch; Her Reflections on Hurricane Harvey

Bergen Verdu is our incredible guest today. She is Emergency Fund Project Coordinator for Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch in the beautiful Napa Valley of California. Bergen shares her experience working in Houston, Texas alongside organizations like Houston Pets Alive and other animal lovers to help with the Hurricane Harvey relief work. Her medical background gave her a perspective on how serious the health threats are, and how important everyone’s contribution is to relief efforts.

Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch is a no-kill rescue and sanctuary in the Napa Valley for companion and farmed animals in need. The nonprofit provides transitional and permanent shelter, adoption and rescue services, humane education, animal advocacy, and is committed to ending animal hunger, cruelty, and overpopulation.

141: Ryan Darfler, Mad Dog Rescue; Dusty Showers, Creepy Creatures; Hurricane Harvey and Irma

Ryan Darfler is founder and director of Mad Dog Rescue, soon to have its 501(c)(3) status. Mad Dog Rescue exists to Make A Difference to the lives of domestic animals. They accomplish this through community outreach, disaster relief, emergency logistics, and relocation/homing efforts.

Ryan shares about two life-saving trips he helped coordinate from Houston to San Francisco to transport animals, helping in the Hurricane Harvey relief work. It was a total team effort, involving Houston Pets Alive, Austin Pets Alive, Mad Dog Rescue, The Milo Foundation, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, San Francisco SPCA, and Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch.

The Bay Area Pet Fair, hosted by Pet Food Express, is the largest pet adoption event in California! This year’s Pet Fair will be September 16 & 17, 2017 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. The Fair will feature more than 70 rescues and shelters and will welcome over 50,000 attendees, some 1,500 of whom are expected to go home with a new pet. Thousands of dogs, cats, and small animals of all sorts will strut their stuff looking for their new forever home!
